Protecting and Preserving in your Twenties?!

Your twenties can be a tricky time when it comes to skincare. You are probably past your Clearasil days, but you don’t yet need wrinkle treatments. So what should you be doing? Two words: protect and preserve.

Protecting your skin from the sun should be priority number one. The sun gives off harmful rays that mutate your dermal cellular structures, and also, destroy elastin and collagen. So, how do you protect yourself from the daily exposure? Sunblock seems like it would be the easy answer, but one way that you may not have considered is Vitamin–C.  Sunblock works by using titanium dioxide and zinc oxide to physically block or deflect the sun’s rays. Alternatively, Vitamin-C is an antioxidant that absorbs the UV rays and neutralizes the free- radicals. In addition to protecting your skin, Vitamin C can help preserve your skin by stimulating collagen synthesis and decreasing melanin (think dark spots and freckles) formation.

We produce some Vitamin-C naturally by eating our fruits and veggies; however, an additional Vitamin-C, topically applied, is needed to effectively protect and preserve our skin.  You will find many products containing Vitamin-C on the markets, including creams, make up, and serums. So, how do you choose? We have an easy solution. Of all the Vitamin-C products, only serums contain an almost colorless form of active Vitamin-C.  We carry some amazing Vitamin-C serums from the well trusted brand Obagi in various concentrations.  To get started on a skincare regimen that includes Vitamin-C serum, call our office to schedule your appointment with Dr. Rude.
