Question: Do you have to have a drain with a tummy tuck?
Answer: You don’t
always have to have a drain with a tummy tuck.
I am able to do a drainless tummy tuck on the right candidates. Newer
techniques in plastic surgery such as progressive tension sutures have made
this a safe practical option for the right patients. The best candidates do not
have additional liposuction to do at the same time. This is also harder to do
in the massive weight loss patients, for instance, those who have had bariatric
surgery. For the people who do have drains after surgery due to the same
techniques we are usually able to get these out after a matter of 2-3 days.
This is a great improvement over the past averages that could have been as long
two weeks.
