The best way to know if someone is a candidate
for Zeltiq is of course physical examination. The best candidates for Zeltiq
have small excess pockets or bulges of fat that they don’t like. Zeltiq works
by isolating a bulge of fat and then freezing it between two cooling plates.
The fat is able to freeze at a warmer temperature than water would freeze. The
analog usually used is comparing butter in the fridge to milk. This allows us
to freeze the fat without injuring the skin. The fat is then melted away.
Zeltiq represents a nice result. It is not for large fat reduction. It is best
for smaller pockets. That said, people can and do repeat the treatment in the
same area. You do not have to do multiple treatments to see a result but you
can treat the same area multiple times. We usually expect a 25-30% reduction in
the fat thickness that is pinched. The most popular areas are the abdomen/tummy
as well as the hips (muffin top). The next most common area is back (the fat of
